National Security Investment Consultant Institute: Protecting Retired Investor’s In a High Threat Environment

Many advisors have at least a basic understanding of how to protect retired investors from the risks associated with investing in stocks, bonds and mutual funds.

Those of us associated with the National Security Investment Consultant Institute’s Founder’s Class have made a major investment of time and money to learn how we can protect our clients from national security threats as well.

Let me illustrate with a word picture/metaphor. Imagine sitting on a beach with your loved ones, enjoying the sun and the sand. The typical financial advisor is trained to help protect you from sunburn. Sunburn is a real problem that you need to be protected from because it can have long-term consequences to your health.

Now imagine yourself looking out at the water and, all of a sudden you realize that there is a tidal wave about to crash onto the very beach where you are sitting with your family. At that point, there is little you can do to protect yourself and your family. It could be a life-ending event.

In other words, most advisors focus on long-term outlooks and historical returns of stocks or bonds; but they completely miss much larger, potentially devastating threats to your financial survival because they don’t show up on their radar. Getting back to the metaphor, they are focused on what is happening on the beach and oblivious to the ocean.

Based on my association with the National Security Investment Consultant Institute (or NSIC), my mission is to be able to protect you from sunburn on a normal day at the beach, but also to have the ability to recognize when conditions are ripe for a tidal wave so I can help protect you from that as well.

Can you see the critical difference between the two? So when it comes to deciding who will manage your wealth, which type of advisor would you rather have?

The goal of the NSIC is to address the serious security problems we face and to help protect American investors from the risk of coming carnage. I was honored to be asked to join a select group of roughly 20 investment advisors that formed the Founder’s Class.

That in-depth training consisted of almost 50 hours of private briefings from a retired 3-star general, the head of a top national security think tank and a successful Internet entrepreneur. Overall, there were 11 instructors, many with CIA, DoD, or FBI backgrounds).

NSIC’s Chairman and Founder Kevin Freeman, a former Templeton investment executive, Pentagon sub-contractor, and New York Times best-‐selling author stated, “what we see as the marketplace our enemies view as the battle space”.

The Chinese, Russians, and Middle East terrorist groups have each expressed interest in damaging our economy as a means of warfare using both cyber and financial weapons, including, but not limited to mostly unfamiliar tools like algorithm manipulations, dark pools, naked short selling and bear raids.

“Despite clear demonstrations of capability as well as expressions of intent, the threats of economic warfare remain largely unaddressed by our Government and Wall Street,” states Freeman. With asymmetric financial warfare threats at an all-‐time high, consumers/investors sense something is not right in the global economic system.

At the same time many in the investment industry are not equipped to understand and respond to these new geopolitical threats.

It is hard to pick what impacted me the most. One thing that stood out was the depth to which all levels of the U.S. government (even down to the county and local levels) are being influenced by radical Islamists operatives. It is hard to understate the damage that has already been done to our nation and the years or decades it may take to reverse that damage.

The second thing that really alarmed me was the vulnerability of our power grid from natural causes like a solar flare or an act of terrorism. Government reports indicate that the loss of our power grid is a very serious threat that could result in the death of 9 out of 10 Americans.

In fact, just this morning, the head of the NSA, Admiral Mike Rogers, said that (quote) “he believed China along with ‘one or two’ other countries had the capability to successfully launch a cyber-attack that could shut down the electric grid in parts of the United States.” (unquote) Talk about a tidal wave just off the beach!

The third significant threat relates more directly to our financial markets. The underlying weapon that was used to crash our markets in 2008 is still available to anyone that wants to use it. That weapon is referred to as Naked Short Selling and it is illegal, but doesn’t often get prosecuted.

That means that rogue nations, terrorists or even Sovereign hedge-funds can collapse our markets on any given day—and there is little that we can do about it.

Regardless of whether we recognize it or not, we are in a war. Retired investor’s very financial survival is under assault on a daily basis. That’s why it is vital that those providing you financial advice are equipped with the knowledge and understanding of the National Security threat matrix and the potential impact it can have on your investments.

There are five different categories of threats that every retired investor needs to be aware of:

  1. Cyberwarfare Attacks
  2. Financial Systemic Risks
  3. Monetary System Collapse
  4. Political/Military Threats
  5.  Critical System Infrastructure Failure

The implications of these national security threats affect every aspect of our lives—spiritual, financial, practical, social and political. Unfortunately, there aren’t any simple answers or easy fixes to these complex and ever-evolving problems.

Some of these threats, for instance becoming the victim of a phishing attack, can result in the inconvenience of having to contact all of your credit card companies, credit bureaus and banking institutions to alert them and/or change your security credentials. That will take hours, days and weeks, but it doesn’t threaten your existence.

On the other hand, a solar flare can knock out our power grid, plunge us into darkness and essentially set our society back almost 200 years IN AN INSTANT. We wouldn’t hear anything, the power would just go out…and not come back on…it literally could take years for power to our nation to be restored.

Unfortunately, the same loss of power could be caused by our nation’s enemies through the use of an electro-magnetic pulse weapon or through a cyber-attack.

That’s right, it may be possible for our enemies to collapse our power grid from anywhere in the world with just a computer and an internet connection. Such an attack could be a nation-ending event. In other words, our very existence is at stake.

I will be writing more in the next days, weeks and months about these threats and steps you can take to try to protect you and your family. And, in the midst of all this depressing information, I will also share why I am so excited about our futures personally and as a nation.

For now, though, let me end by asking that key question one more time:

So when it comes to deciding who will manage your wealth, which type of advisor would you rather have? How about a National Security Investment Consultant?
